Why is partisanship so tribal?
Partisanship, or strong loyalty to a political party, can be a tribal behavior because it involves identifying with a particular group and defending its interests and beliefs. This can create a sense of belonging and solidarity within the group, but it can also lead to hostility and aggression towards those who are outside the group or who hold different beliefs. Partisanship can be reinforced by social, psychological, and economic factors, such as the desire to belong, the need to defend one's beliefs, or the pursuit of economic self-interest. These factors can create a tribal mentality, in which individuals and groups become entrenched in their beliefs and are unwilling to consider alternative perspectives.
